Universal Day Of Prayer For Students

WHAT IS THE UNIVERSAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR STUDENTS?

Every year individuals, churches and communities around the world unite to lift up students in prayer on the Universal Day of Prayer for Students (UDPS). The UDPS is coordinated by the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), and has been celebrated since 1898, making it one of the oldest ecumenical days of prayer. It serves as one of the tangible signs of our common life and connection between students and alumni of WSCF all around the world.

We invite all our members and friends to unite in prayer for the world, the church, students, and  WSCF itself on (or around) the 3rd Sunday of February. You may also choose to set an alternate date that is more convenient for your community.

This year’s theme is ‘We are Many, We Are One’ – inspired by the theme for the 2015 WSCF General Assembly.

We are thrilled that individuals, churches and organisations have partnered with us to produce this resource. We hope you find it useful to lead members of your congregation or group in prayer.

WHY DO WE SUPPORT STUDENTS?

Students come from every walk of life, representing a rich tapestry of experiences, cultures, traditions and languages. They have the potential to shape our world for the better. If the world could see how our faith brings this amazing diversity of people together and unites us in Christ, how might we change?

We believe a transformation can happen. A world acting more justly, a people speaking up for the poor, and a church bringing healing to broken communities. Join us this Sunday to lift up students in prayer and help us make this vision a reality.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
  1. Download our resource toolkit and run a UDPS-themed service on Sunday 15 February (or another date). We have prayers, reflections from students, sermon notes and worship songs that you can incorporate easily into a service.
  2. Invite someone from SCM to speak at one of your services – either on 15 Feb or another date. Contact the office if you’re interested.
  3. Spread the word on social media by downloading resources below, including a template poster and UDPS logo.
