NCLF Condemns Reported Abuse Of African Migrants In Libyan Slave Trade

Following footage of young African men being dehumanised in Libya, including being auctioned off as slaves in a courtyard outside the country’s capital Tripoli, the NCLF expresses outrage and deep pain, and calls upon the British Government and the wider international community to take urgent action to stop this illegal activity. As part of the terrible situation facing African migrants, this abuse in Libya must end.

The NCLF also expresses its disgust and is repulsed by such abuse of basic human rights and further calls on the Libyan Government to investigate immediately these matters and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Today, more than 65 million people are displaced globally. Forced from their homes by violence, fear or desperation, each is deserving of safety, freedom and hope. Many are surviving in precarious situations and are unlikely to return to their homeland for years, even decades. It’s estimated that more than half of the world’s refugees are children, many of whom have lost relatives and homes and witnessed unspeakable acts of violence.  They are vulnerable prey for illegal human traffickers.

As part of the global Christian community NCLF calls upon world governments and leaders to extend generosity, kindness, solidarity and decency to those fleeing persecution, and in the face of the unfolding human catastrophe, take immediate and viable steps to offer sanctuary to more refugees and migrants.  NCLF also calls for the establishing of safe and legal routes for migrants and refugees use.
