Syria/Turkey Earthquake Disaster

Dear Sister/Brother in Christ,

We write concerning the current disaster in Syria and Turkey following the two massive earthquakes measuring magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.6 respectively, and hundreds of aftershocks since Monday 6th February 2023. It is heartbreaking to see how much devastation can be wreaked in a mere 90 seconds of an earthquake! At the time of writing, the death toll is in excess of 10,000 people. According to the World Health Organisation around 23 million people may be affected. Against a background of political unrest, below freezing inclement snowy winter weather conditions children, women and men are enduring an unimaginable situation. A massive rescue and recovery mission is underway as many remain trapped. This destruction will impact upon human life and wellbeing and infrastructure for years.

As Christians we pray for everyone affected. At this time our fellow humans need us to come to their aid (James 2) and we are urging you to respond quickly. Support can come in several ways:

Make a personal donation.

Encourage your congregation/s to donate.

Donate through recognised agencies like Action AidBritish Red CrossChristian AidDoctors Without BordersOxfamTearfund, & UNICEF.

Make contact with Turkish and Syrian communities in your area – some may be able to receive material like blankets, etc.

NCLF Directors urge you to do whatever you can to support those in need.

Thank you for your generous time and consideration. May peace and love be with each of you.

As always, it’s a privilege to serve.
